About joining Twitter again

Note to self

If you’ve read my latest post, you know at least three things about me :

  • I haven’t set foot on Twitter for one and a half year
  • I never could enjoy tweeting due to insidious ego problems
  • I’m about to join again, because I feel better about a lot of things

The goal is the same as before : genuine, meaty conversations with real people. The only difference is that now, it’s an attainable goal for me. Which doesn’t mean it will be easy. Exposing myself to the world has never felt natural to me. And if people are more or less comfortable with making mistakes in public, I’m definitely more of the “less” type… That’s the other main reason why I’m joining again : making uncomfortable comfortable.

But some habits die hard. So I’ve decided to write myself some guidelines, to make sure I stay on the right track. Maybe they’ll find their way to those who need them as much as I do.

Here we go.

  1. Consistently ignore your — and everyone else’s — follower counts
  2. Welcome likes and RTs as they come, waiting for them is stupid
  3. Follow back, unless they’re a bot, silent, or too big a fan of automation
  4. Spend 3 minutes max on each tweet
  5. React, ask, hustle, especially the unknown and the smarter
  6. Make a shit load of mistakes and be proud of them
  7. Say what your gut tells you to say, except in the middle of conflict
  8. Unfollow anyone that adds no value to your life
  9. Judge no one, starting with yourself
  10. Turn off your phone notifications
  11. Be behind the screen every time you publish something
  12. Stop measuring clicks, it’s an absolute waste of your personal time

I guess that’s it for now. The list remains open to new rules as they come. That being said, see you on the Twitter \m/
